Marvelous Month of May

--

I can’t promise to do this every month because I am not as emotionally and mentally invested into any time of the year than May (I love that it’s the 5th month, it’s my birth month, great people were born in May and no American President has died in the month of May…yet)

I want to bore you with the history and mythological beliefs associated with the month of May. So, I know May was named after a goddess that has to do with either fertility or fruitfulness; I can’t say for sure now and I don’t want to trust Google with this one and May has it’s astrological and precious stone -I know it’s not diamond.

Okay, enough with the boredom. Let’s face why we’re here.

May is Photo Month Day: You see why I am biased with this month. If you know me, know anyone who knows me, know me from a distance or you used to know me, you’d know how I feel about pictures. With me, pictures aren’t worth a thousand words, pictures are the perfect expression and no need for words (tell that to Instagram folks who write long captions, I do too. Hahaha)

So, if there’s anything you should do all through this month, it’s to take pictures. Seize every moment. Snap. Shoot. Take a selfie or a groupie. Just take pictures! Or you could bring out the albums. Look at your childhood pictures, college pictures and just relish in the wonder of progress. It’s so weird how you can see differences beyond physical growth in an old picture. For example:

In this picture, I wasn’t living in Lagos. I was in Ibadan and I was clueless (not entirely) how to go about my big dreams. I actually even thought I couldn’t ever figure it out. Looking at this picture now, I can still remember how unsure of today I was then. I can remember how those eyes have cried at night and stared into hopelessness at day. Yes, I can remember all from one picture. And do you know how that makes me feel? Grateful and hopeful. I am grateful I have grown, I have worked hard to figure out some things and I am not crying about the things I used to cry about then.

Another thing about the month of May is that is the Barbecue Month.

Do I really need words to really drive home this point? Isn’t this picture worth a thousand explanation? I am glad you agree it is.

Do you know about Cystic Firbosis? May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited life-threatening disease that affects the lungs and make breathing difficult because of the diverse range of its infections. If you were looking for a cause to be passionate about, here is one. Check out facts of cystic fibrosis in your local community, help create awareness, help care and show love to those who have this. Join the campaign across diverse social media platforms — listen to stories of people battling this disease and those who are dauntless in the face of this life-threatening challenge.

If you have seen Five Feet Apart, you have a little idea about what an average young person living with CF go through.

This isn’t all there is about May; we still have other bunch of really cool stuff but I choose these three because they are the most doable and interesting unless you are really into bikes, front porch and some antique.

If I organize a barbecue party at my front-yard this month, would you want to come?
