BookHub: A Community For Those Who Seek More Than Knowledge

--

In an era of social media influencers, celebrities, bloggers, and ‘everyday’ people who want to share their opinions and make their voices heard, it may seem that building a community of people who genuinely drive themselves and seek positive change would be a Herculian task and that assumption can’t be tossed aside because of an element of truth. Building a community that lives out its aims and objectives is a very hard work, unless, you meet your kind.

Reading is a hobby for some — it’s fun! They spend time reading and enjoying themselves the way some of us could watch 11 episodes of our favourite TV series for 5 hours; but to some others, reading is tough love. They have come to understand the importance of reading and its benefits but still struggle with taking time out to read or finishing a book they have started. Whatever kind of category you fall into it, there’s a bridge that connects all kinds of readers: the ability to search for knowledge, create solutions and strategies from acquired knowledge and apply principles to drive change (internally or externally)

And this is where BookHub comes in!

BookHub Members, Sola Owonikoko and Yinka Adewale at Kudi HQ

At BookHub, we have read a few books, so, it’s not in the number — we do one book per month, have an online discussion once in a week, where people in the tribe facilitate the conversations and the others drive the direction. Then, we meet quartely to hangout, connect, talk about a book with guests who are relevant to the book of the moment.

Another fact is that we read different genres — memoirs, novels, politics, success, motivational, financial, community development, etc; so if you follow through each book, you should be well-grounded in some matters that you probably wouldn’t gravitate toward on your own.

I know the usual direction of these kinds of articles is to collect testimonials of BookHub members and use words to paint the loftiness of the tribe but because I am doing this for the ‘culture’ and not for PR, I decided to go a more subtle direction, hoping that in these few words, you’d see the picture I am trying to paint.

Conversation on Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell at the August Hangout

The community members connect intellectually and emotionally, we ask each other daring conversations, have conversations the society avoid, disagree with authors, and strategize how to apply the working principles in the books we read. We also have fun too, you know!

BookHub connects you with people from different walks of life, experiences and dreams who have just a few thing in common — to be more than to know. That’s why it’s a community for those who seek more than knowledge. You’ll be asked questions, room will be given to you to discuss the grey areas and little expectations will be placed on you to drive personal change and development.

You can find bookhub on Instagram and on Twitter

Thank you for staying with me till this point.
